The first responsibility of government, any government, is to defend its people and its borders.
Israel has had to defend its people and its borders in several wars of unprovoked Arab aggression - aggression with genocidal intent!
Israel’s leaders, from Menachem Begin to Yitzhak Rabin, swore never to go back to the 1949 armistice lines, which Abba Eban called “Auschwitz borders”!
UN Resolution 242 called for defensible borders for Israel. There was no reference to the mythical “Palestinians” nor was there any question about Israel’s sovereignty over its ancient land.
As we commemorate Yom Hashoah, its martyrs and heroes; as we commemorate and celebrate the return to our land from the horrors of our long exile; as we commemorate our heroes, who gave their lives in defense of our land, and as we celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, we must rededicate ourselves to the safe future of our people and our land.
Peace will come when our enemies tire of hostility, aggression, terrorism and poisonous propaganda; when they educate their children not for suicide missions, but for peace,
